AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
ISSUED BY ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES

02:09 UTC JANUARY 22 2019

DISCUSSION: AS THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM DOMINATED THE LEEWARD ISLANDS IT KEPT CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA RELATIVELY STABLE WITH LITTLE TO NO SHOWER ACTIVITY REPORTED OR SEEN ON THE RADAR. FURTHER WEST ACROSS THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS, A TROUGH MOVING WEST IS CAUSING WEAK UNSTABLE CONDITIONS OVER THESE ISLANDS, HOWEVER BY TOMORROW MORNING THESE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE OUT OF THE AREA. THE MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TROUGH IS ALSO MOVING AWAY FROM THE AREA AS SEEN VIA THE MIMIC TPW. UPPER LEVEL CONVERGENCE IS ALSO STIFFLING ANY SIGNIFICANT CLOUD DEVELOPMENT AT THE LOWER LEVELS.

THIS TREND IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE REST OF THE FORECAST PERIOD WITH THE POSSIBLITY OF A FEW LIGHT DAYTIME SHOWERS ACROSS ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA.

THESE CONDITIONS ARE IN GENERAL AGREEMENT WITH THE LATEST ISSUED FORECAST.
