THIS IS FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
A TROPICAL CYCLONE ALERT REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE LEEWARDS AND BVI
A TROPICAL CYCLONE ALERT MEANS THAT, IN THIS CASE, A DEVELOPING AREA OF DISTURBED WEATHER (AL98) IS WITHIN OUR MONITORED AREA BUT WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE NOT REQUIRED AT THIS TIME.
AT 8 AM ECT OR 1200 UTC, AL98 WAS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY AT LATITUDE 12.5 NORTH, LONGITUDE 43.5 WEST OR ABOUT 1000 MILES EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS APPEAR CONDUCIVE FOR GRADUAL DEVELOPMENT DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS WHILE IT MOVES WESTWARD TO WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH AND AL98 IS LIKELY TO BE A TROPICAL DEPRESSION OR A TROPICAL STORM AS IT MOVES NEAR OR OVER THE LESSER ANTILLES IN TWO OR THREE DAYS.
NO TROPICAL CYCLONE WATHCES ARE IN EFFECT AT THIS TIME;HOWEVER, A TROPICAL STORM WATCH MAY BECOME NECESSARY FOR PORTIONS OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS BY LATER TODAY SUNDAY.
INTERESTS IN THE LEEWARDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ARE URGED TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND MOVEMENT OF AL98 AND BE PREPARED TO ACT TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY.
